ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 921 new Covid-19 cases and 33 deaths on Friday, its ministry of health reports.
The country conducted a total of 8, 415 tests to confirm the positive cases in the last twenty-four, says the Ministry in its Covid-19 report for the day.
The death toll has also reached 5, 921 after 33 patients died due the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.
There are now 745 severely sick patients getting treatment in intensive care units, says the report, which puts the active case count at 25, 807.
It also says 1, 706 patients have recuperated from Covid-19, pushing the recovery toll to 321, 695.
The Ministry reported Ethiopia’s first Coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed 353, 425 infections after testing nearly 3.54 million people.
As part of the response to stop the spearhead of the virus, the ministry is currently carrying out a nationwide vaccination campaign.
In the past 24-hours, over 20, 400 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered, according to the report.
The ministry of Health launched the ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, the country has vaccinated close to 2.87 million people against the virus.
