Ethiopian Parliament Re-Appoints Tagesse Chafo as House Speaker
ADDIS ABABA – Tagesse Chafo has been re-appointed as Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia (HPR).
The newly elected members of the house endorsed Tagesse’s appointment with a majority vote during the house’s first session on Monday.
Tagesse has been serving as house speaker since March 2018, replacing Muferiat Kamil who went on to serve in the Prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s cabinet as Peace Minister.
The lower house of Ethiopian parliament has also elected Mrs Lomi Bedo, former Speaker of Chaffee Oromia, as a deputy speaker.
New Speakers for House Federation

On the same day, members of the House of Federation, the upper house of Ethiopian parliament, held its first session to elect its house speaker and deputy speaker.
Accordingly, the house elected the former governor of Amhara regional state, Agegnehu Teshager, as speaker of the House.
Agegnehu replaced Adan Farah who served as a house speaker for the past 13 months.
The upper house of Ethiopian parliament voted unanimously to appoint Agegnehu as its speaker of house.
Mrs. Zehara Ahmedo has also sworn in as a Deputy Speaker of the House of Federation
