ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has obtained more than 668 million USD in remittance over the past two months alone, the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency said on Friday.
The East African nation expects to secure 4 billion US Dollars in remittance at the end of current 2021/22 Ethiopian fiscal year that begun on July.
Speaking to reporters, Director-General of the agency, Selamawit Dawit announced that Ethiopia obtained over 668 million US Dollars in remittance in the first two months of the fiscal year, according to state-run Ethiopian News Agency.
In the same period, she said the diaspora has also extended 108 million Birr in donations as well as bond purchase in support of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction project.
The agency also said the diaspora community contributed more than 59. 8 million and 32 million Birr in support of the National Defense Force and humanitarian activities, respectively.
