Ethiopia Reports 591 More Covid-19 Cases, 543 Recoveries

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 591 new Covid-19 cases and 543 recoveries on Monday, its ministry of health reports.

The East African nation conducted a total of 4, 422 tests to confirm the positive cases in the last twenty-four, reveals the Ministry’s Covid-19 report for the day.

The death toll has also reached 5, 439 after 38 patients died due the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.

There are now 791 severely sick patients getting treatment in intensive care units, says the report, which puts the active case count at 27, 926.

It also says 543 patients have recuperated from Covid-19, pushing the recovery toll to 308, 938.

The Ministry reported Ethiopia’s first Coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed 342, 305 infections after testing nearly 3.45 million people.

As part of the response to stop the spearhead of the virus, the ministry is currently carrying out a nationwide vaccination campaign.

In the past 24-hours, a total of 24, 319 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered, according to the report.

The ministry of Health launched the ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, the country has vaccinated close to 2.8 million people against the virus.
