Ethiopia Reports 4, 899 New Covid Cases, 11 Fatalities
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 4, 899 more Covid-19 infections and 11 related fatalities on Friday, reveals a ministry of health report.
The East African nation conducted more than 13, 400 tests in the last twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases on the day, says the report.
The latest daily cases have taken the confirmed active cases count to 58, 357.
At least 290 of them are severely sick and are now receiving medical treatments in hospitals, the report indicates.
Eleven more Covid-related fatalities and 551 recoveries have also been recorded in the reported period, bringing the national death toll to 6, 937 and recoveries tally to 355, 046.
Ethiopia has so far reported the largest number of Covid-19 cases in the East Africa region.
Health officials, who confirmed country’s first Coronavirus case in March last year, has confirmed 420, 342 infections after testing more than 4.1 million people.
The vaccine drive launched as part of the repose to tackle the pandemic in the country has also continued on Friday, albeit a smaller rate.
In the past 24-hours, the country has administered as many as 1, 819 doses Covid-19 vaccine, shows the Ministry of Health’s report.
The ministry started offering the Covid-19 vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, the country has administered close to 10.92 million doses while the number of fully vaccinated Ethiopians has reached 9, 322, 163.
