Covid-19: Ethiopia Reports 1, 187 New Infections, 38 More Fatalities
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 1, 187 more Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking the confirmed case tally to more than 340, 000, according to its ministry of health.
The country tested a total of 7, 722 people in the last twenty-four to confirm the positive cases, says the ministry in its daily Covid-19 report.
The national death toll has also reached 5, 369 after 38 patients passed away due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.
There are now 793 severely sick patients getting treatment in intensive care units. They are among the 27, 618 active cases in the country, according to today’s report.
The report also claims as many as 1, 568 patients have also recovered from the disease, pushing the recovery toll to 307, 856.
Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has recorded more than 340, 800 infections after conducting nearly 3.44 million tests.
The country is currently carrying out a national vaccination campaign as part of its response to control the spread of the virus.
More than 12, 700 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the past 24-hours, says the report.
The government started inoculating the public on March 13, 2021. To date, nearly 2.76 million people have been vaccinated against the virus.
