Japan Grants over 7.9mln Birr Support to Expand Schools in SNNP, Sidama Regions

ADDIS ABABA – A combind total of 7.9 million birr grants from Japan is set to support School expansion projects in two regions of of Ethiopia, its embassy in Addis Ababa said.

Kololo Primary School in Kembata-Tembaro Zone of SNNP region and Yuwo Secondary School in Wondo Genet Woreda of Sidama Region will benefit from of the grant agreements signed on Thursday.



ITO Takako, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, signed the agreements with officials of Tesfa Foundation, and Resurrection and Life Development Organization in Addis Ababa.

As per the contracts, Japan has donated a total of up to USD 173,810, or equivalent to 7,931,159 Birr, for these two projects.

The support will help the two schools to accommodate more students in their communities and enable children to learn in a proper learning environment, as per the recipients of the grants.

Under the projects, Tesfa Foundation will furnish classroom block in Kololo Primary School which allows to enroll 150 more students while Resurrection and Life Development Organization will carry out the expansion project at Yuwo Secondary School, enabling the school to accommodate 200 more students.

The latest financial support for the two expansion projects came from the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Japan has implemented over 400 projects across Ethiopia since the GGP was introduced in 1989. The GGP focuses on community development through supporting communities in education, vocational training, access to water and sanitation, health, food security and other areas.
