Ethiopia Registers 1, 664 New Covid-19 Cases, 34 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1,664 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Tuesday, pushing the national confirmed tally to more than 325, 000, the ministry of health reports.

The country tested over 9, 000 people to identify the new positive cases in the past twenty-four hours.

Additional 34 people have also died due to the acute respiratory disease in the same period, taking the death toll to 5, 001.



The number of severely sick patients in the ICU has jumped by 32 and has now reached 783. They are among the 27, 284 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the report.

It also says at least 1, 146 patients have recuperated from the respiratory disease, bringing the national recovery count to 293, 092.

The East African nation confirmed its first case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 325, 379 cases after conducting close to 3.34 million tests.

Health officials are urging the public to observe the health advice put in place including wearing face masks, social distancing and proper hand washing.

The country is also carrying out a mass vaccination campaign. Nearly 20, 00 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the past 24-hours, according to the report.

Ethiopia launched the vaccination campaign on March 13, 2021. To date, it has vaccinated a total of 2, 334, 572 people against the virus.
