ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 472 more coronavirus cases and 22 related deaths on Sunday,, data from the ministry of health reveals.
The East African nation conducted close to 3, 500 tests in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive infections, the ministry reveals in its daily Covid-19 report.
The national death toll has also reached 4,929 after 22 more patients succumbed to the disease in the reported period.
There are now 746 severely sick patients receiving medical attention in hospitals, says the report. They are among 27, 425 active cases in the country.
It also says more than 760 patients have also recovered from the disease in the reported period.
Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13, last year. Since then it has conducted close to 3.33 million tests to confirm 323, 104 infections. About 290,748 of the infected people have already recovered.
In terms of the vaccination drive, data from the ministry shows a total of 40, 482 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the last twenty-four hours.
Health officials began inoculating its nationals on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, the country has offered close to 2.8mln vaccine doses to the public.
