Covid-19: Ethiopia Reports 1,398 New Cases, 19 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1,398 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Tuesday after testing 8,839 people in a 24-hours period, reports the ministry of health.

Additional 19 people have also died due to the acute respiratory disease in the same period, taking the death toll to 4, 804.

Ethiopia now has 744 severely ill patients, says the Ministry’s daily report for the day that puts the active case tally at 27, 265.

It also says more than 600 patients have recuperated from Covid-19, bringing the national recovery count to 285,501.

The East African nation confirmed its first case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has identified 317, 572 cases after conducting close to 3.3mln tests.

Officials at the ministry are urging the public to observe the health advice put in place including wearing face masks, social distancing and proper hand washing and vaccination.

According to the ministry of health, at least 7, 264 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 on Tuesday.

Ethiopia launched the ongoing vaccination campaign on March 13, 2021. To date, it has offered more than 2.58 million Vaccine doses to the public.
