Covid-19: Ethiopia Reports 1062 Recoveries, 13 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Sunday reported more recoveries from the Covid-19 respiratory disease than new cases for the first time this week.

The country has confirmed 1,040 fresh cases after testing 6,467 people in the past twenty-four hours, the Ministry of Health says in its daily Covid-19 report.

As many as 1,062 recoveries have also been reported in the same period, according to the report.



It also shows the national death toll has reached 4,644 after 13 more patients succumbed to the disease on the day.

The severe cases tally has continued its increase today with 19 more patients hospitalised.

Currently, there are 600 severely sick patients, says the report, which puts the active case count at 26,894.

Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13, last year. Since then it has conducted more than 3.22 million tests to confirm 295,804 infections. About 306,117 of the infected people have already recovered.

In terms of the vaccination drive, the report shows about 1,689 people have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 on Sunday.

Health officials began inoculating its nationals on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. To date,  2,435,730 vaccines have been administered to people.
