Ethiopia Reports 486 New Covid-19 Cases, 7 Deaths
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 486 more cases of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and seven related fatalities on Sunday, the Ministry of Health reveals.
In its daily Covid-19 report, the Ministry says more than 5, 000 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive cases.
A further seven patients have also died due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period, pushing the national death toll to 4, 478, the Ministry confirms.
Nationwide, there was a slight drop in the severe case tally in the reported period while the active cases count continues to rise significantly.
About 388 Covid-19 patients are seriously ill and they are currently getting medical treatment in hospitals, the Ministry reports.
The national active case tally has increased by 416 in the past 24-hours and reached 19,423 as the country continues to record more daily infections than recoveries.
As many as 65 patients have recuperated from the respiratory disease in the 24-hours period, taking the recovery tally to 265, 371.
Ethiopia has been carrying out an immunization campaign at the national level as part of its response to control the pandemic.
However, its ministry of health has reported no new vaccination for the two consecutive days.
Nationwide, more than 2.3mln vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the vaccination campaign last March.
To date, Ethiopia, which recorded its first Coronavirus cases on March 13, last year, has confirmed 289, 274 cases after conducting more than 3.11mln tests.
