Ethiopia Recordes 511 New Covid-19 Cases, highest daily total since mid-May

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 511 more  novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Wednesday, the highest daily rise in cases in nearly three months.

The daily report from the ministry of health shows close to 6, 000 tests have been conducted in the twenty-four hours to identify the positive cases.

Today’s case total is the highest daily number since May 13, when health officials reported 593 infections.



The ministry has also reported the death of 8 Coronavirus patients, the highest daily total since June 18. At least 4, 403 Ethiopians have passed away since the country registered its first Covid-19 death on April 15, last year.

Ethiopia currently has 13, 398 active Covid-19 cases , of whom 308 are in severe health condition, the report shows.

It also says at least 123 patients have recuperated from the disease in the day, taking the recovery count to more than 264, 000.

The East African Nation reported its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year. Since then, it has confirmed over 281, 811 cases after testing 3.04 million people.

As part of its response to the pandemic, the country is currently carrying out a nationwide immunization campaign.

On Wednesday, the ministry of health says 23, 080 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19,  one of the highest number doses provided in a day in the recent weeks.

The figure has pushed the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses provided in Ethiopia so far to more than 2.25 million.

The country launched its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
