Ethiopia Registers 1, 739 New Covid-19 Cases, 35 deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 1, 739 additional Covid-19 infections and 35 related deaths on Saturday, its Ministry of Health reported.

Nearly 7, 300 tests have been conducted over the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases, according to the Ministry’s covid-19 report for the day.



The report shows at least 35 people have lost their lives due to COVID-related complications.

The figure has pushed the national death toll to 3, 146, said health officials, who registered the first COVID-19 related death of the country on April 15, last year.

The number of hospitalizations in the day has increased by more than 30 patients as compared to the preceding day.

About 933 patients are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill.

Ethiopia currently has a little more than 55, 000 confirmed active cases, health officials said.

Over the past 24-hours, they said at least 1, 093people have recovered from the
respiratory illness, bringing the recovery tally to 169, 038.

The East African Nation identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 227, 255 infections after conducting nearly 2.44mln tests.
