PMs Approve 561.67bln Birr Budget for 2021/22 Fiscal Year

ADDIS ABABA – The lower house of Ethiopian parliament has approved the 561.67 Billion Birr draft budget for the the upcoming 2021/22 fiscal year.

The budget bill has been a subject of various discussion in the parliament beginning June 14, before its eventual approval on Monday.



The budget, which was unanimously approved by the Council of Ministers on June 5, has shown an 18% increase as compared to the 476 billion birr that was set aside for spending during concluding 2020/21 fiscal year.

Out of the total proposed budget, 162 billion Birr has been allocated for government spending, 183.5 billion Birr for capital expenditure, 203.95 billion Birr for regional states’ budget and 12 billion Birr for implementation of sustainable development goals.
