Ethiopia Reports 67 New Covid-19 cases, 1 Death

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 67 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and one related death on Sunday, a report from the Ministry of Health shows.

The country tested more than 4, 600 people in the past twenty-four hours to find the new cases.

At least one person has died due to the acute respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus, the ministry said in its Covid-19 report for the day.

A total of 4, 331 Ethiopians have lost their lives since the start of the pandemic last year.

There are now 131 critically ill patients nationwide, says report that puts the confirmed active cases tally at 11, 077.

The same report says only 76 people have recuperated from the disease during the 24-hours period, pushing the recovery tally to 261, 025.

Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus case on March 13, last year. Since then, it has identified 276, 435 infections after conducting nearly 2.9mln tests.

Today’s report also shows only more than 2, 000 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, pushing the total number of vaccines administered in Ethiopia to 2, 036, 764.

The East African nation started its immunization campaign a week after it obtained 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. The country also received more than 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from China.
