Covid-19: Ethiopia Registers 45 More Cases, 3 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded a total of 45 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and two related deaths on Saturday, data from the Ministry of Health shows.

Health officials identified the new positive cases after conducting 4, 440 tests in the past twenty-four hours.

a further three people have lost their lives due to the acute respiratory disease caused by coronavirus, the ministry’s Covid-report for the day shows.

The figure has pushed the national Covid-19 death toll to 4, 330.

Currently, there are 11, 087 confirmed active cases, and of these, 135 patients are critically ill, according to the report.



The ministry also reported the recovery of 150 patients from the disease in the past 24-hours.

The East African nation identified its first Coronavirus case on March 13, last year.

Since then, the country has tested over 2,88 people and confirmed a total of 276, 368 cases. Of these, close to 261, 000 people have recovered, today’s report reveals.

It also says that at least 5, 003 people have received the Covid-19 vaccines on Saturday as authorities push ahead with their immunization campaign.

Ethiopia launched its vaccination drive on March 13, a week after it obtained 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

To date, it has offered a total of 2, 034, 764 doses of vaccine to its citizens.

The majority of the vaccines given during the campaign is AstraZeneca. Health officials have also administered the Sinopharm vaccine after receiving more than 500, 000 doses from the government of China.
