Ethiopia Confirms 76 More Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 76 more novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and five related deaths on Thursday, data from the ministry of health reveals.

A total of 4, 898 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours nationwide to identify the positive cases.

In the same period, the ministry said five people have lost their lives due to health complications related to the acute respiratory disease.

The figure has pushed the national death toll to 4, 325.

Ethiopia currently has 11, 186 confirmed active cases, of whom 142 are in severe condition, says the Ministry’s Covid-19 report for Thursday.

The report also reveals the recovery of 365 patients from the disease, caused by coronavirus, taking the national recovery tally to 260, 737.

The East African Nation confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13, last year. It has, so far, reported 276, 250 cases after conducting over 2.87mln tests.

Ethiopia has also continued to immunize its citizens on Thursday despite a relatively small rate, according to health officials’ report.

At least 2, 953 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, taking the total number of doses offered, so far, to 1, 022, 116.

The ongoing vaccination campaign in the country began on March 13 – a week after Ethiopia received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. The country also obtained 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from China.
