Ethiopia Registers 63 New Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 63 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Tuesday, taking the confirmed case count to more than 175, 000, reports the Health officials.

The country tested at least 4, 550 people to identify the positive cases in the past twenty-four hours.

In its Covid-19 report today, the ministry of health says five more people have died as a result of the acute respiratory disease in the same period, pushing Covid-19 death toll to 4, 320.

At least 150 critically ill patients are still in hospitals receiving medical treatment in hospitals, says the report that puts the active cases count in Ethiopia at 11, 431.

About 685 Covid-19 patients have also recuperated from the disease in the past 24-hours, it says.
The East African nation reported its first coronavirus infection on March 13, last year.

Since then, its health officials conducted over 2.86mln tests to confirm a total of 276, 037 cases. Of these, 260, 302 people have already recovered, according to today’s report.

The same report also says Ethiopia has administered more than 7, 000 Covid-19 doses on Tuesday as health officials continue to push their immunization campaign.

To date, a total of 2, 010, 091 people have been vaccinated, according to the ministry of health.

Health officials started the vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. They also obtained 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from China.
