Ethiopia Records 223 New Covid-19 Cases, 6 Deaths
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia reported 223 more coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Wednesday, pushing the national confirmed case tally to 273, 398.
Nearly 5, 000 medical tests have been conducted in the past twenty-four to identify the new cases, according to the daily Covid-19 report.
In the same period, a total of 783 people have recuperated from the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.
To date, a total of 248, 285 people have recovered after contracting the virus in the country that confirmed its first case on March 13, last year.
According to data from the Health Ministry, the daily recovery rate continues to outnumber daily new infections, positively affecting the Covid-19 caseload in the East African nation.
There are now 20, 885 confirmed active cases in the country.
Of these patients, 261 of them are severely ill and have been hospitalized, according to the health ministry’s report.
It also shows six more people have died due to Covid-19 related health complications, putting the nationwide death toll at 4, 226.
It is also among the countries hardest hit by ovid-19 in Africa, following South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia.
In the past 24-hours, at least 6, 646 people have been immunized against Covid-19.
Wednesday’s report indicates more than 1.9mln people are now offered Covid-19 vaccines in Ethiopia where its health officials launched the vaccination campaign in mid-March, 2021.
