Ethiopia Confirms 593 COVID-19 New Infections, 13 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 593 more Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, pushing the nationwide confirmed tally to nearly 265, 000.

The country identified the latest positive cases after conducting 5, 621 medical tests in the past twenty-four hours, said the Ministry of Health in its covid-19 report for the day.



In the same period, the report confirms at least 13 people have passed away due to health complications linked to COVID-19. The figure has brought country’s death toll to 3, 951.

The report also shows the number of hospitalizations has decreased by 6 as compared to the preceding day.

There are now 653 Covid-19 patients who are receiving medical treatment in intensive care units in the country, reveals the report which puts the national confirmed active cases at 45, 273.

During the 24-hours period, at least 926 patients have recovered from the deadly respiratory illness.

Health officials are pushing with their vaccination campaign which started in mid-March.

Additional 22, 604 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered Thursday, taking the number of people inoculated with the vaccine in Ethiopia to more than 1, 42mln.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has confirmed its first case in March, 2020. Since then, it has conducted over 2.64mln medical tests and identified 264, 960 infections.

At least 215, 734 these patients have already recovered from the disease, according to today’s Covid-19 report.
