ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held talks with the head of African Development Bank Group Akinwumi A. Adesina on Thursday.
Following his meeting with the president in his office, Abiy expressed his “extreme pleasure” to welcome AfDB’s president Adesina to Ethiopia.
The PM lauded Adesina as “Africa’s true son and Ethiopia’s partner”.
The African Development Bank is a major development partner to the government of Ethiopia which signed a $31 million grant deal with the bank last month to boost health and nutrition for children under the age of five.
The bank’s total ongoing commitment in Ethiopia is about 1.7 billion US dollars, covering the key sectors of basic services, energy, transport, agriculture, governance, and the private sector, among others, according to the Bank.
After the visit, president Adesina too expressed his delight to visit Ethiopia and meet Prime Minister Abiy.
“I am amazed with the development and transformation of the country & proud of the $1.7 billion financing of the African Development Bank in Ethiopia,” he wrote on his official twitter page.
