ADDIS ABABA – The Government of Italy has contributed 400, 000 Euro to the United Nations Development Programm Project that supports the electoral process in Ethiopia.
The Ambassador of Italy, Arturo Luzzi, and the UNDP Resident Representative, Turhan Saleh, signed a grant agreement on Thursday.
The Fund – 400, 000 Euro – will finance the implementation of UNDP’s project namely “Supporting Elections for Ethiopia Democracy Strengthening” [SEEDS], according to Italy’s embassy in Addis Ababa.
“The main and common goal is to contribute to the transparency and inclusiveness of the electoral process in Ethiopia by reinforcing the capacities of NEBE (National Electoral Board of Ethiopia)”, it added.
In this view, the embassy said the “ultimate aim of the Italian support to the UNDP’s project is to contribute to the strengthening of the Ethiopian democratic institutions”.
The Italy-UNDP collaboration will be managed by the Office of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency in Addis Ababa.
The national elections in Ethiopia will be held on June 21, 2021. Preliminary data shows about 36 million Ethiopians had registered to vote.
