Ethiopia Reports 256 More Covid-19 Cases, 4 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 256 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) on Saturday after its health officials conducted more than 5000 tests in the past 24-hours.

In its daily Covid-report, the ministry of health also said four people have passed away due to the virus in the same period, pushing the national death toll to 4, 143.

There are now 30, 281 confirmed active cases in the country.About 422 of these patients are severely ill and are getting medical attention in various Covid-19 medical centers, according to the report.

Health officials also reported the recovery of 924 patients from the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus. To date, 236, 774 people have regained their health after contracting the virus.

The East African nation identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, its health officials confirmed 271, 200 infections after conducting more than 2.71 medical tests.

Today’s report also shows the number of people who received Covid-19 vaccine has surpassed 1.8mln.

A total of 1, 801, 175 vaccine doses have been administered since the country launched a nationwide vaccination campaign in Mid-March, according to the report.

Ethiopia received its first batch of Covid-19 vaccines a week before it started the campaign from COVAX, a WHO-led initiative aimed at providing more equitable access to vaccines for low- and middle-income countries.
