ADDIS ABABA – Students of higher education institutions in Ethiopia can now register to vote in the 2021 general election online, election officials announced.
In a statement Tuesday, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said the online voter registration system will help university students who will be attending classes away from their home during the election day to vote in their permanent residence.
“Voters’ registration for higher education institutions will be done online,” said the board.
Accordingly, university students will be able to register online for the next 15 days until May 4 via the Board’s website.
The board has urged political parties, the media, and higher education institutions to encourage students to register online.
Ethiopia will hold a parliamentary election on June 5, 2021.
