Ethiopia Confirms 1, 603 New Coronavirus Cases, 22 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 1, 603 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Monday, taking the nationwide tally to 243,631.

Health officials identified the latest positive cases after conducting nearly 6000 tests over the past twenty-four hours.

Additional 22 people have passed away due to the respiratory disease, claims the ministry’s COVID report that put the death toll to 3, 392.

The rate of hospitalization has dropped below the 1000 mark for the first time since April 14.

About 972 patients, who are seriously ill, are getting medical treatment in intensive care units across the nation, according to Monday’s COVID-19 report.

They are among the 59, 592 confirmed active cases in the country.

Health officials also reported the recovery of 1, 330 COVID patients in the past 24-hours. The figure has pushed the national recovery count to 180, 645.

Ethiopia has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the East African region, after conducting more than 2.5mln tests. The test tally too is one of the highest in the continent.
