COVID-19: Ethiopia Reports 1, 741 New Infections, 28 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered at least 1, 741 more coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Sunday, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to nearly 229, 000.

Health officials identified the new positive cases after testing more than 8, 000 people for Coronavirus, which causes the deadly respiratory disease.

A further 28 people have died due to COVID-related complications during the period, claims the Ministry’s daily Coronavirus report. The latest figure has pushed the national death toll in the country to 3, 174.

Sunday’s report also shows an increase in the rate of hospitalizations by 38 cases as compared to Saturday.

Currently, 971 patients are receiving medical treatment in Intensive Care Units after they become severely ill, the ministry reported. They are among the 55, 187 confirmed active cases registered nationwide.

In the past 24-hours, a total of 1, 595 patients have recuperated from COVID-19, indicates the report, which put the national recovery tally at 170, 633.

The East African nation confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has identified a total of 228, 996 infections after conducting 2, 445, 578 tests.
