COVID-19 in Ethiopia: 33 new death, 2, 164 new Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s health officials on Wednesday reported 33 new death related to COVID-19, moving the east African nation’s total to 3, 058 deaths since the pandemic began.

The latest death figure is the second highest registered in a day this year.



According to Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 report, over 50 new hospitalizations has been registered on the day.

At least 906 patients are currently in intensive care units after they become severely ill.

These patients are among the 52, 349 active cases registered nationwide, according to the Ministry.

For the first time in weeks, the country has recorded more recoveries than new infections.

The country has reported at least 2, 163 new coronavirus (Covid-19) infections after testing 8, 187 people.

Meanwhile, at least 2, 179 patients have recovered on the same day, health officials’ report for the day.

Ethiopia identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 221, 554 infections after conducting more than  2.4mln tests. A total of 166, 135 people have already regained their health after contracting the virus.
