Ethiopia Records 1, 949 More Covid-19 Infections, 23 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered at least 1, 949 new coronavirus (Covid-19) infections and 23 related deaths on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Health’s report.

In a daily Covid-19 report, the Ministry reveals 7, 423 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours to confirm the positive cases.

On the same day, a further 23 people have passed away due to COVID-related complications, claims the report which put the national death toll at 2, 741.

Data from the ministry shows the rate of hospitalizations has shown a slight decrease as compared to the preceding day – which was 752. The tally of active cases has, however, jumped and surpassed 40, 000 mark again.

At least 744 patients are now receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill, health officials reported.

The patients are among the 40, 609 confirmed active cases in the country, they said.
In the past 24-hours, about 530 people have recovered after contracting the virus.

Ethiopia identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 194, 524 infections after conducting over 2.3mln tests.
