Africa Union ‘united in grief’ with Tanzanians

ADDIS ABABA- Chairperson of Africa Union Commission Ramaphosa has expressed his sadness over the untimely death of Tanzania’s President John Magufuli.

In a statement, chairpersin oussa Faki Mahamat said the African Union family is “United in grief with the Government and People of Tanzania by the untimely passing” of President Magafuli.



“Africa has lost a champion of regional cooperation in the East African region and a committed Pan Africanist leader,” he said, adding “May he rest in peace”.

PM Abiy Expresses Condolences

Earlier today, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, has also  expressed his condolences over the passing of Tanzania’s President.

“My sincere condolences to the people and Government of Tanzania on the passing of President John Pombe Magufuli. May he Rest in Peace,” he tweeted.

President Magufuli died on Wednesday at the age of 61 from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.
