Ethiopia Records Over 1, 700 New Covid-19 Cases
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 1, 704 more Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, pushing the national confirmed case tally to nearly 180, 000.
In its daily Covid-19 report, Ministry of Health said at least 7, 557 tests have been conducted in the past twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive cases.
It is one of the highest number of daily infection count on record
“The pandemic is not over and the fight must continue, we need to revitalize our collective efforts to protect our loved ones and ourselves by adhering to the prevention measures,” Dr Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health said earlier this week.
On Wednesday, health officials reported at least 19 people have passed away due to covid-19 – a deadly respiratory illness.
Their relort has the national death toll, thus far, at 2, 592.
About 597 patients are seriously ill and getting medical treatment in covid-19 hospitals, the report reveals. The patients are among 32, 199 confirmed active cases in the country.
In the past 24-hours, about 531 covid patients have recuperated, bringing the recovery tally in the country to more than 145, 000.
Health officials confirmed Ethiopia’s first coronavirus case on March 13 last year. Since then, they have registered more than 179, 812 infections after testing nearly 2.25mln people.
