Ministry Collects 191.4bln Birr Revenue in Eight-month

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenue has collected a total of 191.4 billion Birr in the past eight months of the current 2020/21 fiscal year. The FY started on July 8, 2020.

The figure has shown 24.63 billion Birr increase when compared with the amount the government secured in the same period of the previous budget year.

In a statement Wednesday, the Ministry said it has achieved 100.9 percent of its target for the period.

Out of the total revenue, 116.7 billion Birr was collected from domestic tax, while close to 74.59 billion Birr is obtained from import tax. Lottery sale generated 154.46 million birr.

“Considering the situations in parts of the country that affected the tax collection efforts, the general performance could be seen as encouraging,” the Ministry said.
