Ethiopia’s COVID-19 Infection Count Surpasses 80, 000 Mark

ADDIS ABABA – The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Ethiopia has exceeded 80, 000 mark after its Ministry of Health reported 566 new cases on Tuesday.

Health officials identified the new positive cases after testing 5, 278 individuals over the past twenty-four hours.



In its daily Covid-19 report, the ministry also said 8 additional patients of COVID-19 passed away in the reported period. The new figure has taken the death toll in the East African nation to 1, 238.

At least 282 Covid-19 patients are currently seeking medical attention as they are severely ill, according to the Ministry’s report which puts the number of active cases in the country at 43, 803.

The ministry has also reported nearly 1000 recoveries for two consecutive days.

On Tuesday, at least 944 patients of the respiratory disease have regained their health, bringing the total number of recoveries to 34, 940.

The East African nation recorded its first case of COVID-19 on March 13. Since the, it has tested over 1.31mln people and confirmed 80, 003.
