ADDIS ABEBA – Five members of Ethiopian men national team have tested positive for COVID-19, Football federation revealed on Monday.
Fourteen players have recently been selected to play for African Cup of nations’ qualifier. Football authorities conducted coronavirus test on 36 players and identified five positive cases.
The federation refrained to reveal the names of the player “out of respect for their privacy and psychological well-being”.
Two other players and one coaching staff are yet to be tested after their late arrival.
The remaining 32 players who tested negative are now training at CAF Academy in Addis Abeba, where they are currently camped.
The federation plans to conduct another round of COVID-19 test within 72 hours.
The latest news could negatively affect the national team which restarted its preparation for 2021 African Cup of Nations and the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers final play-offs with appointment of Wubetu Abate as it head coach late September.
