ADDIS ABABA – A top nurse working for St. Peter specialized hospital has passed away after contracting coronavirus, according to Ministry of Health.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Nurse Anbessawedem Yoohannes due to COVID-19,” said Dr. Lia Tadesse, Health minister of Ethiopia.
Nurse Anbessawedem has been working as a nurse in the hospital for “many years”. The Minister also testified his “tireless effort in the fight against COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus.
Dr. Lia has passed her “heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and loved ones”.
The Nurse is among 850 Ethiopians who lost their lives due to the virus since the country first confirmed its first coronavirus case in March 2020.
The East African nation has so far tested nearly a million people and identified over 55, 000 cases.
