ADDIS ABABA – Owner of a Chinese video-sharing firm TikTok, ByteDance, has provided 100,000 COVID-19 testing kits to support Ethiopia’s latest nationwide testing campaign.
“My sincere appreciation to BytedanceTalk and TikTok for their generous donation of 100,000 COVID-19 testing kits,” said Health Minister, Dr. Lia Tadesse.
The testing kits, estimated to worth 1.3million USD, will contribute to enhancing the country’s testing capacity, especially the recently launched nation-wide COVID-19 testing campaign, according to Dr. Lia.
Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tan Jian handed over the medical equipment to the Ministry of Health on Monday on behalf of ByteDance. The ambassador said that the support aims at mitigating the challenge posed by the pandemic.
As of Monday, the East African nation tested over half a million people and confirmed 23, 891 cases including 420 deaths.
ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company, was founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming.
