Ethiopia Records 564 new COVID-19 Cases; 9 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia reported on Thursday 564 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 20, 900.

The new 564 patients registered after the country tested 9068 individuals for the virus over the last twenty four hours, according to the Ministry of Health.



In its daily report, the ministry also said 9 patients of COVID-19 – a respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus, died in the reported period.

This takes the fatality toll in east African nation so far to 365.

Health officials also reported today the highest number of recoveries in this week.

The Health Minister, Dr. Lia Tadesse said 429 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total to 9,027 .

There are still 11,506 active cases of COVID-19 in the country. Of which, the ministry said 170 patients are in severe condition.

Though its small when compared to its population, Ethiopia is among the the top 10 nations in the number of tests conducted so far.

So far, more than 468, 800 tests have been conducted across the country, according to ministry of health.
