ERA Signs 15 Road Construction Deals worth 25.8bln Br
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Road Authority (ERA) has signed on Thursday 15 road construction agreements worth 25.8 billion birrs.
The Authority signed the agreements with 11 local and Chinese contractors on Thursday.
These are YOTEK construction Plc., ECWC, DMC construction Plc., China Railway 7th Group, China Civil Eng. Construction Cooperation, China WU YI Co Ltd, Afwurk Gidey General Construction, Oromia Road Construction Enterprise, Walabu Construction S.C., Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation and Defense construction.
According to the agreements, the contractors will build a total length of 1,022 kilometers roads including one heavy road repair and one gravel road.
The cost for the road construction projects will be covered by the government, according to the Authority.
“We are pleased that the contribution to the economy is high because of the high demand for road construction,” said Eng. Habtamu Tegegne, Director General of ERA, at the signing event.
The roads are Tenta-Chegoma-Gashena (44.70Km), Guba-Bogondi-Wonbera Kont-Kong (61.72km), Pawi-Mankush-Guba (69.80km), Jaga-qorit-Arebgebeya-Sekelela-Telili (62km), Dembidelo-Mugahi-Gambela (51km), Sheshmene-Halaba (68km), Dire Dawa- Shnele (17.3km),
The others are Omo-Maji (68km), Yasa-Gelasa (100km), Dodola-Debub Wassha-Guba (178km), Metu by pass road project (8.7km), Nejo-Garso-Begi (65km), Siyo–Shenen-Guder (91.8km), Yabelo lot 3-Kanticha-Shakiso (70km), and Guleso-Chabiya (66km).
The projects are expected to be completed between one year and a half to four years, according to the director.
