Ethiopia Records 136 New COVID-19 Cases; 17 Recoveries

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 136 additional cases of the coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,156.

The Ministry of Health identified the new patients after conducting 4,775 laboratory tests. Officials described the patients – 85 male and 51 female – are in the age range of one and 97 years.



All except 12 are Ethiopian nationals while the remaining are citizens of other countries, according to Health Ministry.

Addis Ababa remains the epicenter of the virus with health authorities identified 115 new cases from the city. The others are from Oromia (9), Tigray (7), Harari (2), Somali and SNNP (1) regional states.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s report also claims 17 patients have also recovered from the virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 361.

Eight are residents of Addis Ababa while five re from Amhara, two from Afar and two from Benishangul-Gumuz regional state.

There are now a total of 1,766 active cases in Ethiopia, with 32 of them in a severe condition.

Since Ethiopia identified its first COVID-19 case on March 13, the country has conducted a total 147, 735 individuals and confirmed 2,156 including 27 deaths.
