ADDIS ABEBA – Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has started his official visit to Ethiopia on Friday afternoon.
Trudeau was given a warm welcome by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at Bole International Airport.
“I’m happy to welcome Justin Trudeau for his first visit to Ethiopia,” Abiy said. “I look forward to our discussions towards strengthening the relations between our two countries”.
Canada’s Prime minister is expected to hold several high-level meetings while in Addis Abeba with senior government officials of Ethiopia including Abiy and President Sahle-Work Zewde.
Trudeau will be accompanied by Canada’s Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, Mary Ng, and her trade delegation.
“He will promote trade and investment opportunities between our two countries,” Trudeau’s office said in a statement earlier this week.
He will also meet with leaders attending the 33rd African Union (AU) Summit, that is taking place in Addis Abeba.
PM Trudeau will then continue his Africa tour and head to Dakar, Senegal.
