ADDIS ABEBA – Ethio telecom, state-run telecom services provider in Ethiopia, has launched the state-of-the-art LTE Advanced mobile internet service on Monday.
The Long Term Evolution or LTE-Advanced service has four times faster than the existing 4G service.
The LTE Advanced mobile internet service is availed in areas around Bole Airport, Bole Friendship, Bole Medhanialem, Bole Atlas, Meskel Square, Stadium, Ethio telecom Headquarters, Kazanchis, 4 Kilo (Unity Park), 6 Kilo, Lideta (ECX), African Union, and Old Airport based on the high level of internet usage trend, it said.
“The service covers areas with a high demand for speedy internet,” said Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio telecom.
Ethio Telecom has paid 173mln birr for Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd to install the project.
LTE Advanced mobile service is one of the latest mobile technologies providing reliable connections enriching customers’ experience with exceptional speed to download or upload large-sized data, high-definition (HD) multimedia, live streaming and video conferencing in real-time.
Lte-advanced is designed to provide data with very fast speed, said Ephraim Arefayne, marketing officer at Ethio telecom.
He said the latest Lte-advanced service has a huge difference compared with 3G service in terms of speed, adding it is 14 times faster than 3G and 4 times faster than 4G.
Officials of the company said Ethio telecom will expand the service not only to the rest of Addis Ababa but also to other major Ethiopian Cities soon.
On the same day, the sole telecom services provider in Ethiopia has also expanded the existing limited 4G network coverage throughout Addis Ababa.
“We have already carried out researches to start 4G service in different cities of the country that have high internet demand,” said Frehiwot.
