ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia earned at least 318 million US dollars from horticulture product exprot in the 20118/19 fiscal year that ended on July 7, 2019, says Ethiopian Investment Commission.
Flower export held the lion share of the total revenue generating more than 260 million U.S. dollars during the fiscal year.
Other produces such as vegetables, fruits, and herbs also generated 57 million U.S. dollars, said Mekonnen Hailu, spokesperson of the Commission, told to The Daily Monitor.
Netherland has been the major market of Ethiopia’s horticulture produces with over 85 percent of the total produces exported to European nation.
The remaining was exported to Saudi Arabia, UK, USA, Japan, Norway, Germany, UAE, Belgium, and Italy, according to Mekonnen.
The spokesperson also said the amount of horticulture products export and businesses investing in the sector have been increasing over the past four years.
The sector has so far created for over 100, 000 people.
“The sector has a very huge potential and the government is coordinating every concerned figure in order to bring more investment,” said Mekonnen.
