Over 4,000 Ethiopians Languishing in Jail Abroad
ADDIS ABEBA – At least 4000 Ethiopian nationals are currently languishing in several detention centers across the world, said the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs.
Most of them are migrants held for illegal entry in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and United Arab Emirates, other Middle Eastern and African nations.
Ethiopian embassies and consulate offices are currently in talks with the respective governments to secure their release, said Dr. Aklilu HAilemichael, state minister of foreign affairs.
The ministry repatriated over 27, 704 Ethiopians, who were detained in several countries, together with 112,615 Ethiopians who wanted to come home, after immigrating to other countries without proper documents.
The fugues were released during a press briefing senior officials gave over the ministry’s 2018/19 performance.
