MLA’s initiative to focus on post-planting care for seedlings
ADDIS ABABA – Embassies, regional and international organizations are to partake on Ethiopia’s push on Monday to break the world record for planting most tree seedlings in a day.
The Ethiopian government has been engaged in a massive reforestation effort since the start of the current rainy season in May.
The effort will reach its peak on Monday as the country plans to plant as many as 200 million tree seedlings Monday and set a new world record for doing so in one day.
Embassies and international organizations based in Addis Ababa will put their mark in Addis Abeba on this historic day, says the statement the ministry issued on Friday, adding that they have all confirmed to partake.
Areas designated for the program include Gullele Botanical Garden in Gullale Sub-city and the newly opened park behind UN ECA, in Kirkos Sub-city.
Ethiopian-based international firms are collaborating with a local law firm, MLA, to put their marks in Addis Ababa and around using tree planting initiative.
The law firm mobilized its corporate clients to participate in the national seedling planting program, in line with the National Green Development program.
MLA says customers its customers see the initiative as a “good opportunity” to discharge their Corporate Social Responsibility.
Coca Cola, OCP Group S.A, United Beverages, MOENCO, National Tobacco Enterprise S.C. (a member of JTI), Cepheus and Pittards are some of its climates.
To this effect, MLA said its employees and corporate clients will plant over 2, 500 seedlings at Adwa Park in Addis Abeba, on Monday, July 29, 2019.
“MLA is participating in this initiative to mark the corporate firms’ full alignment with the government’s national green development program and our contribution to the program,” Mehrteab Leul, principal for MLA, told press briefing on Friday.
“What makes MLA’s seedling planting initiative impactful is that we have incorporated a post-planting care and growth plan, starting from selecting suitable tree species and our employees checking and watering the planted trees, regularly,” he added.
As part of the post-planting care and growth plan, MLA and corporate clients have contracted arboriculture, an expert in the cultivation and management of trees to guide planting and post-care procedures for planted trees.
