ADDIS ABEBA – Ministry of Finance says the government will split state telecoms provider into two before its partial privatization.
Ethiopian wants to privatize state-owned enterprises in a bid to attract foreign investors and encourage competition.
Minister of finance Ahemd Shide told state-affiliated FBC that the preparation to privatize Ethio telecom is underway.
Prior to its privatization, the government will split Ethio Telecom into two business units along infrastructure and service sector lines, he said.
Lawmakers passed a bill on Thursday outlining the scope of a regulator for the telecoms sector, a key milestone towards attracting outside investment in the nation of 100 million people.
