PM Abiy’s Father Passes Away

ADDIS ABEBA – Ahmed Ali, father of the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, passed away on Monday afternoon, according to state media reports.

Ahmed had died around 2:00 pm local time while being treated at Jima specialized hospital, said Agaro town government communication affairs office.

His body will be buried on Tuesday, the office added.

Died at the age of 105, many describe Ahmed Ali, also known as Aba Dabes and Aba Fita, as a respected elder in the town where he lived with his family – Beshasha in Jimma Zone in Oromia Regional State.

PM Abiy is the 13th child of Ahmed, who had four wives.  Abiy’s mother, Tezeta Wolde, from Burayu town, was the fourth wife for Ahmed.

Together they have six children with Abiy being the youngest.
