Fifa WC Qualifier: Ethiopia and Guinea Bissau Play out a Goalless Draw

Ethiopia’s hunt for the first victory in their Fifa World Cup 2026 qualifying continues after a goalless draw against Guinea-Bissau on Thursday.

Guinea-Bissau hosted Ethiopia at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in match day three of the African preliminaries for the next world cup.

Both sides were expected to take the initiative to win and keep pace with group A leaders Egypt and Burkina Faso.

It was a match of few clear-cut chances, however, and eventually ended in stalemate.

The result left Ethiopia, without a goalscorer in their qualifying so far, in fifth place with just two points. Guinea-Bissau also moved up to second with five points.

In a follow-up match Thursday, Egypt beat Burkina Faso as they continued their unbeaten start to qualifying and stay on top of the group. Burkina and Sierra Leone, who earned their first victory of the qualifiers against Djibouti on Wednesday, are on four points while Djibouti are still without a point.

Ethiopia’s Starting Lineup: Seid Habtamu (GK), Fetudin Jemal, Yared Kassaye, Million Solomon, Gatoch Panom (C), Kenean Markneh, Binyam Belay, Birhanu Bekele, Wogene Gezahegn, Mesfin Tafesse and Minyilu Wondimu
