National Broadcaster EBC Gets New CEO

ADDIS ABABA – The Lower House of Parliament has confirmed the appointment of a new Chief executive officer for the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

Authorities nominated Getnet Tadesse for the top post at the national broadcaster with 5 Television channels and 3 Radio channels.

The draft resolution to confirm the nominee was presented during the ninth regular session of the House of People’s Representatives on Tuesday.

Briefing the MPs on the resolutions, government whip Tesfaye Beljige said Getnet has the experience and knowledge needed to lead the EBC.

Getnet (R) and Mesafint (L) were sworn in as CEOs of EBS and EPA, respectively.

His experience shows that he has produced journalistic works both in local and foreign media houses, Tesfaye added.

The House eventually confirmed Getnet as CEO of Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation with a unanimous vote.

Meanwhile, the House also approved the appointment of Mesafint Tefera as the new CEO of the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA).

EPA, a public media enterprise established in 1940, publishes the only two daily newspapers Addis Zemen, and Ethiopian Herald. It also publishes Berissa, in Oromiffa, and Al-Alem, in Arabic.
