ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed held a bilateral discussion with Cuba’s Vice President Salvador Valdez Mesa on Wednesday.
“The two sides explored strengthened cooperation in the medical sector, tourism services, education and sugar industries,” the PM Office said.
The bilateral talks took place on the third day of Vice President Salvador’s working visit to Addis Ababa.
The Vice President laid a wreath at the Ethio-Cuba Friendship Square in the capital on the day of his arrival.
On the occasion, he said the Ethiopian-Cuban relationship is historical and forever linked with sacrifices of brotherhood, which the people and Government of Cuba are proud of.
He pointed out that the Cuban soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1977–78 Ethiopia–Somalia war were martyred for the sake of their second homeland.
Deputy Mayor of the Addis Ababa city Jantrar Abay, Members of the Ethio-Cuban friendship, and the Ethiopian students who studied in Cuba attended the ceremony.
The Ethio-Cuban Friendship Square was built as a memorial to Cuban soldiers who fell on the side of Ethiopian soldiers.
