Education Authorities Release New School Calendar

ADDIS ABABA – Authorities adopted a new academic calendar that will guide schools during the newly started Ethiopian year.

The Ministry of Education released the 2023-2024 national school calendar on Saturday which involves a timetable for regional and national exams.

Students will return to classrooms this month with the admission process for the 2023/24 academic year scheduled to conclude by Sept 11, 2023.

According to the academic calendar, the first semester for the newly admitted students will begin on Sept 26, 2023.

Schools will conduct first-semester final exams from February 5-9, 2024. There will be no class in the following week, which will be used to grade the exams and conclude students’ evaluations.

Students will receive the first seminar report card on February 20 in the presence of their families.

Per the academic calendar, the second academic session will begin on February 26 and will end on July 7, 2024.

The school calendar also sets aside the days for the national and regional exams during the second semester.

The first cycle of assessment in the education system, the Grade 6 exam, is set for June 3-7, 2025. The Grade 8 exam is scheduled from June 10-14. The Grade 12 National exam will be conducted from May 20 to May 31, 2024.

Schools also conduct their own final second-semester evaluations for the students in other classes from June 24 to June 28, 2024. The school calendar year will end on July 7 in which the schools will announce the results to the students in the presence of their families.

The calendar may be subject to a few adjustments based on national and regional exams as well as regional conditions, according to the Ministry of Education.
